Darfen Durafencing Date: August 2009
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games offers a wealth of opportunities for businesses, large and small, across the whole of the UK.
One company that is reaping the benefits is
Darfen Durafencing, a specialist provider of fencing solutions in St Albans, Hertfordshire
Darfen Durafencing is a principal trading division of CRH Fencing Limited, a company that produces industrial, commercial, sports and security fencing with a turnover in excess of £30 million. It is a well established fencing company with over 95 year's experience and over 250 employees.
Darfen Durafencing has been awarded the contract to provide perimeter fencing for the Aquatic Centre site by the Balfour Beatty Group in July 2008.
The contract was posted on the
CompeteFor system, a brokerage service between buyers and potential suppliers. CompeteFor offers businesses the opportunity to find out about business opportunities for the London 2012 Games and provides access to business support services.
Alan Cunningham, Regional Director for Darfen Durafencing said: "We were keen to explore the opportunities that the 2012 Games could hold for a business such as ourselves and through research found CompeteFor as a way to access Games contracts."
"We found the CompeteFor website very accessible and user friendly and found publishing our details on the system relatively straight forward. I was invited to a meeting with CompeteFor at the Olympic Delivery Authority head office, where invaluably we learnt how to publish our own requirements through the CompeteFor system. As a result of being published we have been able to bid for around ten further contracts to date."
"It's been an excellent opportunity for Darfen Durafencing to be part of the Olympic Park build not to mention the sizable order for Darfen and its sister manufacturing company in Doncaster. As a result of our contract win we have referred other CRH companies to register with CompeteFor which has subsequently meant they have had orders themselves for Games related works or the supply of materials."
