How Does It Work

Understanding Finance for Business is a step-by-step programme:
  1. Raising Finance for Business is a half day workshop which provides information on different types of finance and which type of project or business development they are most appropriate for. The workshop also gives updates on the current potential in each funding marketplace from specialists actively working in the field.
  2. The full day 'Focus' workshops are tailored according to the type of finance you are seeking to raise (grant, bank loan, equity etc) and facilitated by people who are experts in raising that type of finance
  3. Mentoring is available for companies who are at the stage of being close to applying or pitching for funding and offers up to 2 days of specialist support
  4. If you are at a more advanced stage and looking to secure equity funding, the programme also offers one to one mentoring in preparation for pitching and a dry-run pitch to 'friendly' investors ahead of doing it for real.
To progress beyond the 'Raising Finance for Business' introductory workshop, you need to complete a short diagnostic and be clear of your funding requirements i.e. how much money do you need and what is it for? You must also have a business plan.

Progression to mentoring will require prior attendance at workshops, a clear proposition and a fully worked up business plan, to ensure you derive maximum benefit from the time spent with the mentor.

There is no obligation to progress through the whole programme; you may find that after attendance at the introductory workshop you feel equipped to raise the required finance with no further support.

"An excellent, concise team and a really helpful workshop. I will certainly be exploring how to take things forward. In the meantime St Johns Innovation Centre has already helped by setting up what was a very useful meeting with a company on Cambridge Science Park."
